Tommy & Lucas' half-pipe
When I was about 17 years old I skated a ramp in Majeska Canyon over the summer. Ever since then I've compared every ramp or skate spot to it. When it came time to build my own ramp, there was no choice but to build with those dimensions in mind. One change I did make was I made my ramp 8 feet wider then that Majeska ramp. This ramp is 7 feet high with a 9 foot transition. It's 24 feet wide and has 8 foot deep decks on both sides. The roll-in is 4 feet wide and is almost centered. Left of the roll-in is 12 feet wide, right of the roll-in is 8 feet wide. The framework under the ramp is 4x6 timber supported by (25) 12" concrete footings. The vertical transition plywood is 1/2". The riding surface is supported by 2x6's spaced 8" on center, then two layers of 3/8" ply finished with 1/4" Masonite installed on a 45 degree. No seams between any of the layers are lined up. The decks are 2x6 framed with 3/4" ply finished with 1/4" Masonite. The ramp sits about 120' behind the house, in the woods. When the ramp is not in use it's protected from the elements by a gigantic 15ml tarp.

Today I finished the cross bracing and blocking under the
deck to support the railing posts. This finishes "Phase 1" of the ramp. I
still want to paint the non-riding surfaces brown and green to camouflage in
with nature. I also plan to build a couple ladders or staircases to get to
the decks and perhaps a couple of benches up on the decks. The area in
front of the ramp will have gravel and maybe a picnic table or something.
